An important part of Student Life at Al-Hamra Academy is participation in various Clubs which enrich and encourage achievement, confidence, collaboration and community spirit.
We believe that where our academic curriculum challenges the intellectual needs of a child, our enrichment activities enhance their experience as a student. Student Life at Al-Hamra Academy offers After-School and Extra-Curricular activities both in-town, in the community, and with educational Field Trips.
Robotics
Robotics Club (ARC) is an After-School event run by parent volunteers and teachers. The goals of the club activities are to inspire students in developing creative thinking, problem solving techniques, apply scientific reasoning to solutions, use basic mathematics, physics and programming concepts, research on issues, improve on presentation skills, community involvement, and above all, work as a team while having fun learning. Al-Hamra Academy thanks Coach Br. Ghazanfar for initiating Robotics at the Academy.
Speech & Debate Club
Al Hamra's Speech and Debate Club has been running for the last four years. Our speechies have done really well and won at several tourmants in the Massachusetts Middle School Speech League and the National Forensic League. Students have participated in Impromptu, Duo Improv, Children's Literature, Prose, Poetry, Sales Pitch, Radio Broadcasting, and much more.
Soccer
Our Parent and Alumni volunteers lead the way with After-School Soccer Club at Al-Hamra! Out on the playing field, it is an incredible opportunity to learn soccer skills, teamwork, and have fun! Soccer is held once a week on Sundays. It is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 13. The teams are broken down by age group. Teams have incredible fun and good exercise playing against each other and working up to the big tournament at the end of the season! Thanks volunteer Coaches!
Student Council
Al-Hamra Middle School Students have the opportunity to engage in a leadership position within the Student Council. The Student Council members are responsible for reaching out to the community and to the Town of Shrewsbury by visiting the Fire Department and Police Station. Our Student Council also coordinates events such as Movie Night and Game Night for Middle School Students. Student Council members shine as hosts and hostesses at our well-attended annual Fundraising Dinner each year, masha Allah. As excellent role models, they inspire our younger children.
DestiNation ImagiNation
DestiNation ImagiNation (DI) is a program where student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. There are six new challenges to choose from each year. The areas of focus include: Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Structural and Service Learning. Top-scoring teams advance, and the top tier goes to the Global Finals—the world’s largest celebration of creativity. Teams learn higher order thinking, improve in creative/critical thinking, and collaborative problem solving.
Community Service
Each year, Al-Hamra Academy students participate in many service and community outreach activities. Our students organize food and clothing drives and coordinate delivery to local homeless shelters. During Ramadan students donate to charities to help others in need in the community.
Sports & Athletics
Al-Hamra Students enjoy a robust athletics program both On-Campus and off (at our partner facility). On-Campus, our martial arts program teaches both adults and children self defense, karate, samurai sword, and aerobic kickboxing in the Al-Hamra specialized martial arts curriculum.
Off-Campus Sports (during school hours) are integrated into Al-Hamra's Physical Education program in partnership with our local YMCA.
Physical exercise, healthy outdoor activities and team sports are also a vibrant part of Student Life through outdoor recess/lunch.
After School Soccer
Whether on our ample grassy field during the school day, or taking part in our After-School Soccer Club, soccer is a favorite physical activity among our Al-Hamra Students!
Martial Arts
Martial Arts is an important experience for the development of students' mental and physical discipline. Al-Hamra students who participate are enriched by learning karate, taekwondo and other practices.
